We recently worked with Esther on a Leadership programme we developed for emerging leaders from across the globe, for our client, Menzies Aviation. Recognising that stress, depression and mental health are key business challenges in every industry, we asked Esther to deliver a wellbeing session, to help our participants see how they can effectively lead themselves and others in a more holistic way.

Esther’s session was planned in accordance with the brief we gave her, but she was able to expertly adapt to suit the needs of the participants on the day. The session provided much food for thought for the participants, gave them valuable tools that they can take back to their teams and their own lives, and enabled everyone to relax and let go of tension and stress. Esther was professional while being warm, engaging and approachable and made all the participants feel at ease and safe in the space she created.

As a leadership coach and mentor, I saw an immediate change in peoples’ perceptions of wellbeing as a business priority and was impressed to hear our participants continuing discussions about wellbeing days after Esther’s session. I would never have imagined the impact that a half day session on wellbeing could have on a group of senior leaders, and I am actively seeking ways to engage Esther with other clients.

Dear manager

Do you look at your staff absence rates and despair? Is staff retention a problem for you? You are part of a great company, you are passionate about making it work. And yet you know that your staff struggle with the pressures of life, work and everything in between.

They do their best, but you know there is a workplace wellness problem, and it is impacting on what that ‘best’ is.

The Problem

Over half a million people in the UK experience stress at work. This stress is directly responsible for 12.5 million lost working days. Stress is also linked to many physical complaints. Those migraines, backaches, digestive disorders on your absence statistics could be stress related.

If your staff are stressed, whether it is through work or their personal lives, this will have an impact at work.

Employee health and wellness, or the lack of it, impacts on your business. Stress affects how people are able to work. Productivity, creativity, problem solving and more all suffer when stress is a problem. Issues such as absence, poor performance, presenteeism, irritability with colleagues and more could be symptoms of stress.

There is a solution

The good news is that there is a lot that you can do to improve wellbeing in the workplace. Through effective workplace wellness programs you can empower your staff to manage and reduce their stress. Happy people work better and are shown to demonstrate greater loyalty to their employer.  There is nothing like feeling valued and cared for to make you want to give your best in return.

Wellbeing in the workplace is big news these days. More and more innovative companies recognise that they do better when their people feel better. Companies like Google, Huffington Post and Patagonia have created cultures where workplace wellness is paramount. Their businesses only benefit from this.

You too can share in the benefits of corporate wellness programs.

What are the benefits of prioritising wellbeing in the workplace?

By providing effective employee wellness programs, you demonstrate that you care about well-being at work. This shows staff that they are valued, and gives them tools and strategies to manage their own wellbeing.

Taking care of staff wellbeing has many benefits for you as an employer, including

  • greater productivity
  • reduced sick leave
  • increased staff loyalty
  • improved staff relationship
  • increased creativity and problem solving
  • ….and so much more.

There are very clear business benefits to promoting wellness in the workplace.

The benefits all add up to a significant financial benefit for the company.

A proactive approach to workplace wellness can provide a Return on Investment of up to £12.26 for every £1 spent.

Relaxation Tools

Developing the ability to relax effectively is paramount for stress reduction and overall health. A relaxed mind is a happy, productive, creative mind. If people are able to relax at home, they can be well at work.

Staff will learn a range of strategies to help them release tension and relax to ensure that body and mind get the rest they need.

Stress management and reduction

With effective stress management strategies, your staff can cope better with day to day problems much easier, and reduce the burden of stress they might be experiencing. This will mean great health and happiness for them, and reduced impact of stress for your business. Physical wellbeing

Mental resilience and physical wellbeing are very intimately connected. A healthy mind needs a healthy body and vice versa. Rhondda Yoga offers yoga based movement and mindful walking as powerful tools to balance body and mind. These are both known to improve well being at work and beyond.

How would a workplace wellness program be of most benefit?

With individuals

If a member of staff is experiencing particular problems with stress, I can work with them either on a one off basis, or offering a regular course of sessions. This can help them increase their personal resilience and develop stress management strategies.  This could form part of return to work support, or to prevent them reaching the point where absence is their only option.

Giving your staff this option will give them tailored support, help them to feel valued by the organisation, and will help them to deal with future difficulties better.

With groups

Investment in wellness programs for employees will pay huge dividends and make you an employer people want to work for! An organisation is as strong as the people in it. Strengthening resilience in your staff increases resilience in your organisation your staff to manage stress

Sessions can be delivered to groups to ensure maximum impact and value for money. Your people will benefit from the group learning and discussion elements of the class, and can support one another to continue the practices learned.

Group activities, workshops, talks and classes can be completely tailored to the specific needs of your organisation and staff. Get in touch for more information

With management

Stress at the top flows down through the rest of the organisation and can affect the entire culture of the company. Your managers are role models and leaders, if they learn how to manage their workload and reduce their stress, they can lead by example and share their learning with the rest of their teams.

I can work with your senior management to help them develop their own coping strategies to help them deal with the many pressures they face in their work, to understand how stress affects their team, and to teach them skills to pass on to the rest of the team.

Meet Esther

Esther Nagle knows from painful personal experience how much damage stress can cause in a person’s life.

Having a breakdown in 2013 was the wake up call Esther needed. After 20 years of stress, depression and addiction, she needed a dramatic change in her life in order to find peace and wellbeing. Esther’s decision to train as a yoga teacher transformed more than just her career! Just 7 months into the training, Esther had developed sufficient resilience and healthy coping strategies that she was able to let go of her need for cigarettes, alcohol and drugs after more than 20 years of dependence. Happily sober, Esther has a powerful toolbox of stress busting tools that she uses for herself and loves to share with others.

Esther is passionate about the benefits of Yoga based practices to beat stress and promote wellbeing in the workplace and beyond. Esther sees wellbeing as a holistic challenge that affects the whole of a person’s life. She knows that through learning to breathe, to relax, to sleep and to process emotions healthily, you can achieve inner peace and happiness that radiates into all other areas of life.

Esther would love to help you and your staff reap the benefits of health and wellness in the workplace through these strategies.

Esther delivered a wellbeing yoga session for a research project, run by Merthyr and the Valleys Mind, in partnership with Age Connects Morgannwg. The session was professionally delivered and engaging throughout. The group of older beneficiaries fed back how much they benefited from the seated yoga class, how they have learnt new things, and how they have practised some of the movements learnt at home. I would recommend Esther’s yoga sessions, she was very knowledgeable around the subject area, demonstrating her ability to deliver a bespoke seat based session to suit the abilities of the participants.
